The votes are counted, and the winners of the Nationwide® Wackiest Pet Names contest have been named. But before I share them, I want to get folks in veterinary practices thinking: Would such a contest help YOU connect with clients? I’m thinking it could!
Now for the reveal, from our Wackiest Pet Names site:
Each year, Nationwide, the nation’s first and largest provider of pet health insurance, recognizes the most clever, creative and quirky pet names across the nation. After a thorough selection process, the top 10 dog and 10 cat monikers were chosen from Nationwide’s database of more than 575,000 insured pets and put to a public vote. This year, McLoven the Stud Muffin nosed out Kanye Westie in the dog division and Agent Jack Meower purred past Shakespurr in the cat category.
Our Top 10 is at left. Could you do a contest like this in your practice? Sure you can! Ask everyone on your staff to make a note of interesting, funny and unusual dog and cat names, and narrow the choices down to five plus two alternates in each category based on an internal vote. Call each owner to ask if it’s OK for their pet to be nominated, and if so, ask for a picture, and the story behind the unusual name. (If not, that’s why you have two alternates!)
Then launch a public vote on your practice’s Facebook page, using FB’s poll function. Make it a three-week contest, featuring four contestants (two dogs, two cats) each week, with their pictures and stories. Third week, use your remaining dog and cat in the early part of the week, then end with a post that covers the entire contest without featuring individual pets and make it a “last call.”
In week four, two posts again: The first with your cat or your dog winner, and the second with the other pet winner, depending on whether you led with the dog or cat winner earlier.
