Your fax machine’s last days may well be at hand, and your veterinary team won’t have to be diverted from patient care to handle pet insurance claims. That’s because at least for Nationwide members with our pet health insurance, there’s now a mobile ap that makes filing claims easy for your clients. Here’s all they need to do:
- Take a picture of the detailed invoice.
- Tap in a few details.
- Click “send.”
In most cases, that’s it. No staff involvement beyond handing over the paid invoice. For those clients who have additionally signed up for direct deposit, their reimbursement will typically be in their bank accounts before their credit card statement arrives.
Do you think this is game-changing? I do. The ease of this service is why Nationwide has partnered with VitusVet to integrate our claims submission process with their pet health app.
We listened, and we delivered. To our members, and to the veterinary community.
For years veterinarians have expressed concerns that as pet health insurance continues to grow in popularity, practices will have to dedicate scarce staff time to handle the paperwork — filling it out and faxing it in. These folks envision veterinary practices with staff dedicated to processing insurance claims, in the way many physician’s offices already do.
At Nationwide (and VPI before the name change), we’ve always done what we could to value a veterinarian’s time, with customer service reps — many of them veterinary technicians — dedicated to handling any calls from veterinary practices. These CSRs know that veterinarians go the extra mile for their clients, and we support those veterinarians by helping with any issues that arise when pet insurance claims are in motion.
While we still have those experts on hand to help veterinarians, chances are you’re going to be less likely to need to reach us. By working with VitusVet to make submitting a claim almost effortless to your clients, we’ve increased the likelihood that pets will get the timely care they need — and that pet-owners will handle interactions with us on their own.
The benefits, of course, are obvious. The veterinary team will be more focused on delivering great veterinary care to clients who will be more likely to come in because of pet health insurance. All of which means healthier, happier pets.
Which is why we’re all here, isn’t it?
As for that fax machine: Chances are the one you have now will be the last you ever own. The age of the mobile app is here to stay.
