Meet the Nationwide veterinary relations outreach team!

In addition to Dr. Carol McConnell, Nationwide’s Chief Veterinary Officer, we have a team of field veterinarians and an expert education manager helping the veterinary community to understand the importance of pet health insurance. Here’s our team:

Kristi Yee, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Michigan State University, Purdue University, The Ohio State University, Cornell University, Ross University

YeeDr. Kristina Yee was graduated from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Within her first year as a veterinarian, Dr. Yee began practicing full-time at a six-doctor small animal hospital, lecturing at national conferences, speaking on behalf of and supporting Nationwide  at veterinary schools across the country and providing professional development consulting services for veterinary schools and practitioners nationwide. Her passions include advancing her veterinary medical/business competencies and assisting members of the profession in reaping the benefits of their dedication. Growing up in a suburb outside of Detroit, Dr. Yee takes great pride in her family, work ethic, and her ability to serve as a community role model. Dr. Yee currently resides and practices in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Tonya Sparks, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: Virginia-Maryland Regional, North Carolina State University, University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, Mississippi State University, University of Florida

SparksDr. Tonya Sparks was graduated from the  Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 after serving as National VBMA President in 2007. Dr. Sparks has worked for several pharmaceutical companies and as a medical editor for peer-reviewed veterinary publications. She currently practices at a busy small animal practice in Winston-Salem, N.C., actively volunteers with her local humane society, is vice president of her local veterinary medical association and has recently joined the Nationwide Veterinary Relations team as a Field Veterinarian. Dr. Sparks is a certified Fear-Free professional and is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture.

Cyndie Courtney, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: Iowa State University, University of Nebraska, University of Illinois, Kansas State University, University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M University, Louisiana State University, St. George’s University

CourtneyDr. Cyndie Courtney was graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and served as the 2009 National VBMA marketing director. Since graduation, she has worked in small animal practice, founded the blog, developed a team wellness toolkit as one of 10 AVMA Future Leaders in 2015-2016, taught veterinary technician students as an associate professor, has done independent consulting as an editor and social media copy-writer, and loves mentoring students. She currently practices at Grandview Animal Hospital just outside of Kansas City and has recently joined Nationwide’s Veterinary Relations team as a Field Veterinarian.

Kristen Britton, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: Washington State University, Montana State University, Oregon State University, Utah State University, University of California, Davis, Colorado State University, Midwestern University, University of Alaska, St. Matthews University, St. Georges University

BrittonDr. Kristen Britton is a 2013 graduate of Washington State University. She was the 2012 National VBMA president, 2011 Western Regional Leader, VBMA chapter president for WSU and continues to serve VBMA as a national advisor.

She is a small animal private practitioner in southern Idaho where she enjoys spending time with her husband, son, dog, and two kitties.

She has recently become a Nationwide Field Veterinarian and is thrilled for the opportunity to lecture to and serve as a resource for the VBMA chapters she will visit.

Maggie Canning, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: Texas A&M, Louisiana State University, Tuskegee University, Auburn University, Iowa State University, University of Nebraska and Tufts University

Maggie Canning, DVMDr. Maggie Canning is a 2016 graduate of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was the Auburn chapter VBMA president and 2014 National VBMA Business Certificate Director.

She is a small animal private practitioner in the Philadelphia tri-state region where she enjoys spending time with her husband, son, two dogs, rabbit and horse.

Since graduation, she has spoken at several national conferences, started Auburn CVM’s alumni association, and was part of the team that launched VBMA Alumni. She is thrilled to be a Field Veterinarian with Nationwide and to have the opportunity to educate and support VBMA and veterinary students.

Emily Tincher, DVM
Field Veterinarian

Region: Kansas State University, University of Illinois, University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, Lincoln Memorial, University of Pennsylvania

Emily Tincher Tuxedo headshotDr. Emily Tincher is a 2016 graduate of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was the Auburn chapter VBMA vice president, 2015 National VBMA Business Certificate Director, and is now serving as a National Advisor.

She practices emergency medicine at a referral hospital near Philadelphia, Penn. In her off-time, she loves supporting her alma mater in all University of Kentucky sports, competes her off-track thoroughbred in the sport of eventing, is obsessed with golden retrievers, and loves spending time with her husband and two dogs.

She continues to find avenues such as the AVMA Early Career Development Committee, Facilitation with the Veterinary Leadership Institute, and speaking at several national conferences to promote positive change within the veterinary profession. Working as a Nationwide Field Veterinarian provides the exciting opportunity to meet students and work with provide support to the VBMA in new ways.

Nicole Numbers
Veterinary Education Programs Manager

NumbersBefore joining Nationwide, Nicole Numbers started her career in veterinary medicine working as a receptionist at All Care Animal Emergency Referral Center. She then went on to become a technician. She also spent two years assisting a veterinary pathologist at United Veterinary Laboratory. Nicole left the veterinary field for a few years and worked as an Assistant Account Executive at Bates USA Advertising Agency. This unlikely career combination uniquely qualifies Nicole for the position she holds today as the Veterinary Education Program Manager overseeing all of the veterinary student programs at Nationwide. Nicole also attended fashion design school at Orange Coast College and resides in Costa Mesa, Calif., with her beagle Lucie and her ocicat, Jaxx.
